Barranquilla

Barranquilla is the capitalof a departament called Atlántico, that is infront of the Caribbean sea that is located in the Atlantic ocean, from that ocean it has got its name.
It is called the golden gate of Colombia(la puerta de oro) because it has one of the most important ports on the country, an in there it was created the second airlane in the world, it was called Scacta in which my great great grandparent worked.
Barranquilla has important places like the park called Sagrado corazón, that is an important park that has an skating, tennis and soccer fields, also there is a man that sells kites for flying there, my grandparents live infront it, the tajamar of the Magdalena river, infront of that place there is bocas de ceniza, in which the river goes through the caribbean sea, and a little town very near to Barranquilla that is called Puerto Colombia because it has an historic port constructedin the colonial epoch.Ilike very much Barranquilla because in there my grandparents live and it has many trees and interesting places, also it has the zoo, it has tities, matie, otters, elephants, lions, birds, fishes, monkeys and many other animals, my aunt works there as a dentist, she has operated otters, monkeys, jaguars and a titie monkey, also she appeared in the local newspaper: El Heraldo.

The Boyacá excursion:
The 14 spearers monument

This is the monument of the 14 spearers in the Vargas pond,(in Spanish:El monumento a los 14 lanceros en el pantano de vargas)in this monument Rodrigo Arenas Betancur makes honor to these 14 spearers that with 286 more warriors and commanded by Juan José Rondón defeated the army of the Spanish general José María Barreiro in 25th July of 1819.

Simón Bolivar and Francisco de Paula Santander came from Caracas with 2600 warriors, they had to pass through the plains and mountains until they arrived to the Vargas pond, called like this because the last name of a family that lived there. The Spanish army won a small battle in the war hill,(Cerro de la Guerra)when the Spanish flag waved over the hill, the reserve army of Barreiro was happy of "defeating" Bolivar's army. At 6 pm a little army of 300 spearers that didn't fight comanded by Juan José Rondón and James Rook were sended by Bolivar, he said"¡Salve usted la patria!" to Rondón, they attacked the unredy Spanish army, they were celebrating the victory but suddenly they were attacked by the spearers, they were defeated, the remaining people made a flee to Paipa and the battle was won by Bolivar's army, but unfortunately James Rook was hurted by an spear, some days later he died by gangrena.
